Masterclass with William Howell

Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 5:00 PM until 6:00 PMCentral Daylight Time UTC -05:00

With the upcoming United States presidential election, we are thrilled to present a Masterclass with Sydney Stein Professor in American Politics William Howell.

For this Masterclass, Howell will share insights from his recent paper, “How to Increase the Supply of Moderate and Competent Candidates.” In the paper, Howell and his coauthors analyze data gathered from surveys to explore and assess implications for our understanding of political representation, government effectiveness, and the relationship between institutional reform and mass politics.

Howell, who is also the director of the Center for Effective Government and co-host of Not Another Politics Podcast, has written widely on separation-of-powers issues and American political institutions, especially the presidency. He currently is working on research projects on separation of powers issues, the origins of political authority, and the normative foundations of executive power. His most recent book (with Terry Moe) is Presidents, Populism, and the Crisis of Democracy.
